The 280 Mid-Cabin Express actually began life in 1988 when she was
introduced as the carver 25 Montego, an affordable mid-cabin cruiser
with modern lines and room enough for two couples. Built on a
solid fiberglass hull and sporting an integral swim platform, Carver
redesigned this boat for 1993, dropping the Montego designation and
reintroduced her as the new 280 Express. The hull remained the
same, but the 280 has a redesigned deckhouse, curved windshield, and a
new interior floorplan with the head aft (rather than in the middle of
the cabin as before) and a starboard-side dinette. Where the
original 25 Montego slept four, the 280 Express can sleep six.
The cockpit didn't change much; a cut-out in the transom leads to the
swim platform, and a bench seat and table are standard.
Available with single or twin stern drives, a 280 Express fitted with
a single 300-hp MerCruiser (or Volvo) gas engine will cruise at 20+
knots and reach about 32 knots top. Twin engines were optional.
Note that she was called the 528 Montego in 1991 and 1992.
