The Carver 32 Mariner
was introduced in 1985 as a downsized version of her sistership,
the popular 36 Mariner. (Note that after 1993 she was called
the Carver 330 Mariner.) Her unorthodox appearance has drawn
a lot of abuse over the years, but over 650 of these boats were
sold, which says something about Carver's ability to please the
public. Her great appeal as a family cruiser is the enormous
single-level step-down interior that successfully uses every
possible square inch of space available in the hull. The
result is a truly social boat with an apartment-size salon
featuring facing settees. (Natural lighting is poor,
however, because the cabin windows are so tiny.) A ladder in
the salon provides convenient inside access to the flybridge which
is another huge entertainment center in itself. Standard
270hp gas engines (with V-drives) are located beneath the cockpit.
A thirsty and fairly hard-riding boat in a chop, the Mariner burns
around 20gph at a modest cruising speed of 18mph. The top
speed is around 29-30mph.
